Our work: People and Skills
Scroll to explore
We are committed to supporting good employment practice, and to a stable and flexible skills system that business can invest in. This is vital if we are to improve productivity, and respond to the needs of the region’s growth sectors.
We support the development of education and skills policy that supports the region’s growth and encourage a collaborative approach between industry and policy makers when designing future programmes.
We work to create an inclusive culture where talent from all our region’s communities can prosper. We develop and support diverse talent and encourage others to do the same; helping to deliver business leadership of the future that is more representative of all our people and communities.
Education & Skills Charter
In 2017 NWBLT published an Education and Skills Charter for the North West focusing on scaling up best practice between businesses and supporting the development of policy, both nationally and here in the region, that can make a difference.
In 2022 the NWBLT revisited the original Charter and used a Net Zero lens to articulate the skills and capabilities that are most important for businesses seeking to recruit new workers.
The Apprentice Report
Shaping the Workforce of Tomorrow—acts as a blueprint for a more flexible, employer-led apprenticeship system that better supports businesses, apprentices, and the wider UK economy.
Despite a rapidly changing world since our original report in February 2020, we remain committed to championing a more effective, accessible system.
We will continue working with business and policy leaders to push for reforms that enable the apprenticeship system to grow and thrive.
You can find more information on the Apprenticeship Report here, and its revised September 2020 report, here.
